HAD THE MOST AMAZING EXPERIENCES!

Sun Jul 5, 2009, 12:43 PM
I hardly ever update my journal with things from my daily life, but I thought the last few days have been fantastic enough to share. Prepare for a long journal if you can't be bothered to read it all, I don't blame you.

So...

THURSDAY 2ND
Head off to London for the BIMA competition (British Interactive Media Association) where we had to create something using a form of media (television/computer/video/photography) which benefited the local community and our school. This competition is a national one and is open to every school in the UK.

We created a website which archives little known stories/videos/photos/podcasts from those who lived though the Jersey occupation 1940 - 1945. The channel islands was the only place that was occupied by the Germans during WW2 and Jersey was the last place to be liberated THANKS ENGLAND... NOT! Quote Churchhill: "oh the channel islands? Let them Rot." Churchill after the liberation quote "Oh! Our beloved channel Islands!" JERK FACE. Anyway, the people we interviewed are now very elderly and dying out so it's a now or never situation to collect this information.

We were dreading giving a presentation because we had some trouble with the professionals who were going to put up the final website design and at the very last minute (without telling the students) one of our teachers put up a template and wanted us to lie and say that was our final design because otherwise we would have nothing to show for our months of work. We (myself and 2 friends) refused to lie and keeping our integrity we then restarted the night before our presentation. You could tell it was a template obviously... and on one of the pages it read "made on a mac" with an apple mac logo... hmmmm obvious much? Also on one of the pages it read "freestyle" as the font header opposed to 'Jersey Occupation archive' SOOOooo000o yet another mistake. The thing was we were only told we needed to give a 10 minute or so presentation a few days before the BIMA thingy ma jig... so we were freaking out. We created a speech for the 6 students that were going on the trip, a power point that incorporated a video, and managed to send it to all the students via facebook the night before so they could give it a look over.
Photoshop images of our original design were created and we managed to save the day and not lie... WE REFUSED TO LIE! It would have made our entire project pointless. We were worried about the shoddyness of it all...

We arrived at Gatwick and people were giving out free doughnuts... man that was a nice change if pace from the lack of sleep and stress. We went with 2 teachers Mr. Grimshaw and Mrs Peddle... who we affectionately named ' Papa Grim ' and ' Mama Ped ' for the duration of the trip and decided we were the Von Trapp family. Mrs Peddle was hilarious ... she was rushing to get onto the train from Victoria and Mr Grimshaw had just rushed on before her... the door was closing and she rammed herself into the door (her being a slightly large woman made this all the more amusing) and had to push it and squeeze onto the train... suddenly she turned around and gazed in horror... as she had just ran onto a moving train and left 6 of her students behind on the platform.. she screams through the glass whilst shaking her index finger "one stop from here one stop!!" and then whooshes off. Oh how we laughed... these teachers should so be fired.. they've left their students in London alone... luckily we are capable and met them shortly afterwards.. we reminded and mocked our teacher about this throughout the rest of the trip and were met with a many "oh shut up!"'s.

Our teacher is a bit of a legend.. but absent minded... she got us to the royal academy of arts for 1:30... (the time we needed to be there) and went in asking about the BIMA competition... we found at we were at the wrong destination.... and quickly got a taxi in sweltering hot London heat wave weather to the royal SOCIETY for arts and we were only half an hour late.. phew!

Anyway.. we came joint first and received an Xbox, 2 webcams and 6 Microsoft software packets.. and were shocked because we thought we were gonna just embarrass ourselves... though seeing the other schools.. only one other really stuck to the brief like we did (they were the school that came joint first)

It was a fantastic day, got a plane back home in the evening, it was the last plane in and we were lucky because the previous plane from Gatwick to Jersey had to circle and then go back to Gatwick.

FRIDAY 3RD
Got up at 4:00 to get a plane to London Gatwick for the second day in a row... feeling half dead to go to a Take That concert. Went with four friends, so five of us in total. My cousin navigated the underground with profound expertise and we managed to purchase a heavily discounted day ticket for £7.20 each.. BARGAIN! Many of those in the airport had smiles on their faces as we wrapped ourselves in our "Buff Man Barlow" banner. (For those of you who aren’t Take Thater's, the members of Take That are called Gary Barlow, Jason Orange, Mark Owen and Howard Donald)
We got to Wembley 4 hours before gate opening time and a lovely guard allowed our friend with a Gate J ticket to stay with us in our Gate M waiting spot so he wouldn't be waiting four hours alone.
Then the gates opened.. WHOOSH WHAT A RACE TO GET IN!
We managed to get front rows... much to the disappointment of the chav girls behind me who complained about my height blocking their midgety view... well if you don't like it go somewhere else! During the concert the only people behind me ended up being tall men as I wasn't in their way haha.
We were all proudly wearing our recent bought take that t-shirts and getting very sweaty.
My cousin was determined to start a Mexican wave and got a few people closer to the edge of the standing area to join.. but the other side of the stadium put us to shame.. OUR SIDE SUCKED.. BORING ONES... 80,000 people crammed into a stadium.. wow.. just wow. The Script and Gary Go were the supporting acts,, they were good too but Gary Go’s sound was sabotaged…Danny from The Script was so chocked up that everyone was singing his songs… it was very sweet.

Anyway.. all in all the take that concert was the best thing I have ever seen in my life... it wasn't a concert.. it was a circus show with music and fire works and an electronic elephant. Fire which reached at least 35 ft, Chinese acrobats.. balloons clowns and Jason Orange Singing 'how did it come to this' (my favourite Take That song) He wore funky red and white striped trousers for this song and Gary brought the audiences attention to this .... a girl behind me who we had made acquaintances with began screaming 'off off off' at Jason which my cousin soon joined in on.. two of my friends turned around to her with disapproving looks.. but then quickly joined in the stripping request... so I was left surrounded by hormonal hungry females screaming 'off off off' whilst I was shouting 'on on on keep it on!' Wow I got some dirty looks haha! Anyway, Gary Barlow told the crowd to settle down and said he might take them off later at which my friend shouted loudly "DON'T MAKE PROMISES YOU CAN'T KEEP". How amusing. The 'OFF OFF OFF' Only got more intense after this... but then Jason started singing so all was well. Step back Mark Owen.. Jason is my new favourite!

I would go into more detail about the concert... but you can just go buy the dvd to see how amazing it was... WHICH IT WAS. Or search 'Take that circus concert' on deviantart.

After the concert we roughed it at Gatwick and I couldn't sleep so a friend and I stay awake till our flight back (we were awake for about 33 hours straight) we tried sleeping.. and i gave him some of my t-shirt to sleep on.. not realising I had handed him my sweaty Take That tee... oh dear.. HOW EMBARASSING!
Well I look back on it now and laugh.

SATURDAY 4TH

My friend switched seats on the plane to sit by me and it was the funniest thing ever... the more time I was awake the more happy I became... which was the opposite for him.. the longer he was awake.. the more of a zombie he became.... and he is afraid of flying.. so the sudden alertness when the plane took off was all the more amusing. His face tensed and he gripped the arm rests ready to tear them off... intense.. I had to shut the window but then he was staring out the other ones telling me about the various plane crashes he had read about and how 'you never think it's going to be you'. My reply was.. well at least we can say 'whheeee' before falling.. he was not amused. He doesn't even like roller coasters you see.

But we survived.. we then drove home even though our driver.. the flight fearing non sleeper for 24 hours plus was like death and I went straight to bed.. slept for 15 hours...

it's been a wild ride.

I wish I could give more detail about the fun things we did but this is an essay already and it's still brief.

Just so you know, I am now a fully converted Take Thater and the Circus tour concert will be a tough concert to beat.
